I didn't build Cover Ready because I wanted to get into tech. I built it because I'm a hospitality professional who was tired of watching great teams get pushed to the breaking point by operational chaos.

My background is rooted deeply in the industry. I've come up through the ranks working high-volume operations—grinding through packed weekend rushes as a server and bartender, and seeing firsthand the incredible logistics it takes to execute seamless hospitality. Over the years, I've watched brilliant chefs, managers, and floor staff pour their hearts into this industry, only to be completely overwhelmed by a system that hasn't changed in decades.

The "Why" Moment

The turning point for me didn't happen in a boardroom; it happened on the floor. It was that all-too-familiar moment we've all experienced: a high-stakes, maximum-volume shift where the reservation book is full or a massive event layout is set, and the text messages start rolling in. A last-minute call-out. A shift that needs an immediate cover.

Suddenly, managers are caught in a frantic group-text web, food is dying under the heat lamps, and the remaining staff is forced to sprint twice as hard to cover the gaps.

I looked around during one of those brutal shifts and realized that while our industry has tech to take orders and tech to track calendars, it completely lacks tech that protects the people running the floor. Standard scheduling software tells you who is supposed to work, but it does absolutely nothing to help you handle the scramble when real life happens.

Worse yet, I watched regional operations and caterers struggle to bring on temporary gig workers who were thrown onto the floor with zero context, forcing managers to repeat the same basic training guidelines a hundred times over when they should have been focusing on the guests.
